When to get tested

Anyone who is having oral, vaginal, or anal sex should get tested for STDs. It is important to get regular checkups, even if you have no symptoms. A lot of people with STDs do not have symptoms, so you might have an STD even if everything seems normal.

If you notice symptoms of STDs (burning, redness, itching, or other changes in or near your penis or vagina), get tested as soon as possible. You should also get tested if anyone that you have sex with tells you they have an STD, or if they have symptoms of an STD.

When you go to get tested, talk to your doctor about what types of STD tests you should get.
